
UNESCO King Hamad Bin Isa Al-Khalifa prize for the use of information and communication technologies in education was awarded to Kemi-Tornio Polytechnic at the UNESCO headquarters on the 12th January 2007. The prize was given for the development of The eDegree Programme in Lapland that offers a full BBA education programme to students in remote and rural areas who have few study opportunities due to their location or work situation. The 25 000 US dollar prize was received by Ms Riitta Käyhkö, Rector of the Polytechnic and by Ms. Seija Jäminki, lecturer in charge of the degree programme.
